The paper directly addresses the issue that younger people with dementia and their carers frequently fall through the net of the health and social care services.
It asserts that commissioning agencies should have specific contractual arrangements for a specialised service for younger people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. There should be a named individual at the level of the commissioning authority with responsibility for these developments. The recommendations set out in this paper are in addition to the services currently available for patients with dementia.
