Dementia adviser service: evaluation

The National Dementia Strategy (2009) highlighted the need to enable easy access to care, support and advice following diagnosis. In response to the emerging strategy, Alzheimer’s Society set up several Pathfinder Dementia Adviser services to pilot new service models.
This report published by the Alzheimer’s Society presents the findings of an evaluation of the Pathfinder Dementia Adviser services from the perspective of service users.
The report shows that people with dementia and carers valued the Dementia Adviser service and the information and support they received. Although most service users reported information needs relating to dementia, this study also highlighted the diversity and changing nature of service users’ needs, the significant role of the Dementia Adviser to meet these needs and the breadth of knowledge required by a Dementia Adviser in able to support these clients to live well with dementia.
