Cardiovascular Disease Outcomes Strategy

March 29 2013

This outcomes strategy published by the Department of Health identifies ten key actions for local authority and NHS commissioners and providers to deliver improvements in patient outcomes.

The first and most important recommendation is that cardiovascular diseases should be considered as a single family of diseases, so that opportunities to prevent and treat the different conditions are optimal, leading to reduced mortality and morbidity, reduced inequalities in access and outcomes and improved patient experience.

Many of the other actions are about doing more of the same but better or on a different scale – following National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines on prevention and treatment, implementing NICE quality standards, and ironing out variation for example.
