DLB is the second most common progressive dementia, affecting over 130,000 people in the UK (one in six people with dementia).

DLB is also known as Lewy body dementia, Lewy body variant of Alzheimer’s disease, diffuse Lewy body disease, cortical Lewy body disease and senile dementia of Lewy body type.

People with Lewy body dementia may experience difficulties with attention and walking, hallucinations or sleep disorders.

In the later stages people with Lewy body dementia may experience unusual behaviours such as agitation, restlessness or shouting out. They may also be more prone to falls as a consequence of increasing difficulty with walking, and experience problems with speaking and swallowing.

The Lewy Body Society have a produced a series of factsheets and videos about Dementia with Lewy bodies.

For example, the video below features Peter Ashley who has continued his full and busy life in spite of a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia.
