The Cognitive neurology and dementia centre at St George’s Hospital is a regional specialist centre for cognitive neuroscience and dementia, that works closely with other hospitals from across South West London, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire, and with GPs, community nursing teams, mental health services and social services.

The centre provides diagnosis, assessment and treatment of all cognitive disorders, including:

  • Mild cognitive impairment
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Primary progressive aphasia
  • Semantic dementia
  • Frontotemporal dementia
  • Vascular dementia
  • Dementia with Lewy bodies/Parkinson’s disease plus dementia
  • Progressive supranuclear palsy
  • Corticobasal degeneration
  • Epilepsy and dementia
  • Limbic encephalitits

Services are provided by a consultant led multi-disciplinary team of neurologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, neuroradiologists, physicians, specialist nurses, therapists and mental health services. Patients can often see a number of specialists on the same day in the Neuroscience Day Unit.

Referrals can be made by other healthcare professionals and GPs. Patients are also often referred by the emergency department. Healthcare professionals should read the guidance on making urgent and non-urgent referrals.

GPs can refer by letter, fax or through choose and book.
